Data destruction
SHREDDING | DEGAUSSING | PHYSICAL DESTRUCTION
Shredding
The company holds a Blancco licence for software that enables it, by overwriting, to effectively erase data from media. This activity is generally carried out on its premises though may, by arrangement, be undertaken at the customer's premises.
RGC currently offers a three-pass overwrite which is generally considered sufficient to render data sufficiently irrecoverable. Additionally, and of significance both in terms of reports to the previous owner as well as the potential purchaser, the software undertakes integrated hardware testing developing an automatic hardware inventory; this includes a statement on the shredding activity.
This data is held on an in-house server to permit traceability as well as permitting reporting.
Degaussing
As an alternative, the drive can be degaussed - the reduction or elimination of magnetic regions, a property fundamental to the operation of the drive.
Physical destruction
A further option is the mechanical destruction of the drive, the major option where the drive is damaged and will not respond to software shredding.
No drive will leave the security of RGC's premises containing retrievable data
