Re-use and sale

RGC is sensitive to the value of used equipment within the second-user market.

It considers that the re-use of equipment satisfies two main criteria within WEEE legislation, namely that waste is reduced and that electrical and electronic waste is re-used.

As a result, after equipment has been returned to the company's warehouse and assetted it is sorted into potentially saleable equipment and that destined for recycling.

The saleable equipment is tested to confirm its value, if any; it is then cleaned, de-badged, shredded etc and either sold either through known traders or via RGC-Sales - the company's eBay outlet.

Items for sale include whole or part IT items, thus minimising the overall quantity of materials sent for recycling.

Enhancement and resale

IT equipment, particularly base units and laptops, can be enhanced by increasing speed, memory etc.

While RGC does not attempt to achieve a major upgrade of the specification, it is able to make minor changes which enhance the value of such items prior to sale.

Recycling

Equipment that has no commercial value has no other destination than a recycling company.

The company to which RGC transports the major part of its waste IT equipment is a leading e-waste recycling and waste material management service provider, specializing in the re-use, de-manufacturing and trading of scrap electrical and electronic equipment.

The company invests in R & D on recycling materials and measures its success in terms of environmental impact. Its commitment is to aim for zero landfill and drive towards a greener environmental policy, a philosophy which equally motivates RGC.

Two additional minor waste streams exist; these are:

  • light iron, transported to a local national recycling company
  • lead-acid batteries, taken to a local major national lead recycling company
