Recycling is strongly influenced by legislation, including the following:
- The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2006.
This UK legislation came in to force on 02 January 2007 and encourages reuse, recovery and sound environmental disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment.

- Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005.
This legislation covers the movement of hazardous waste from coded premises, registered with the Environment Agency.

This legislation controls the movement of IT and other equipment out of the UK.

RGC is controlled and influenced by other legislation including that relating to transportation of waste.
There are minor differences of legislation in Scotland and Northern Ireland and RGC acts in accordance with these differences.
